In the early nineties, Volvo again turned to the project of an environmentally friendly car of the future. Demonstrated in 1992, the ECC (Environmental Concept Car) was built almost entirely from recyclable materials. The car was equipped with a hybrid power plant, including a gas turbine and an electric motor. She could use almost all types of fuel, both of mineral origin and those obtained from vegetable raw materials. Design solutions were also worked out at ECC. The appearance of the car turned out to be so successful that six years later, with minimal changes, it was borrowed for the serial Volvo S80.
